The Impracticality of Life

Bright eyes
and beautiful lies.
They hide my pain,
they are my disguise.
I'm stressed,
depressed,
but I'm well dressed.
And with my head held high
I'll attempt to survive
this impracticality
we call life.

So I thought I'd give you guys a brief insight into my blog's title. I think the poem says it all.

Have a good night!
- Dare

P.S. Speaking of eyes, remember how I said I like drawing the left ones? Well, for your enjoyment, here is a half-decent eye I drew. (I wish I had a picture of a better one for you guys but this is all I've got on my lap top and my camera is at school.) So... taa da!

Sorry if that was a bit anticlimactic... to make it up to you I'll introduce you to Alex Goot, who, if you haven't already heard of him, is an AMAZING you tube singer. I cannot stop listening to this song! Enjoy!

Six reasons why She's the Man is the best movie to cheer you up:

So today was a really, really crappy day for me. First of all, I got a hair cut and since I had such bad dead ends I had to get like 3 and a half inches off! Lesson learned, one haircut per year is not okay. Then I had to study chemistry because I have midterms in a week and it made me realize how much I hate chemistry. Thus began another "what-the-hell-am-I-doing-with-my-life" pity party. To top it all off I got in a huge fight with my mom. Typical.

Clearly, I needed something to cheer me up and chocolate ice cream just wasn't going to cut it (though it never hurts). Suddenly, an idea struck me. What better than to watch She's the Man?! Here are five reasons why she's the man is the best cheer-me-up movie for when you'r feeling crappy:

1. Amanda Bynes is hilarious. She absolutely made this movie what it is. In fact, all the characters are funny and will no doubt have you laughing out loud (even if your watching alone in the dark confines of your bedroom) and in seconds you'll forget all about whatever made you feel so bad in the first place.

2. Channing Tatum. Need I say more.

3. It's based off of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night so don't beat your self up about procrastinating or being anti-productive, it's practically literature!

4. It's timeless and you will never grow tired of it. Ever. Having watched it a million times, I can attest to that.

5. The main character is kick-ass and proves that girls are just as good as guys. If you are a Mulan-enthusiast like me, this movie is guaranteed to leave you feeling like you can accomplish anything!

6. What other movie can you watch where both Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum have tampons shoved up their nose? If this alone is not a reason to love this movie, I don't know what is.

There you have it, watching She's the Man is scientifically proven to cheer you up, even from your lowest of low. If for some reason you are deprived and have never seen this movie (first of all, I feel deeply, deeply sorry for you) GET ON IT! Seriously, go watch it! BEST MOVIE EVER. You can check out the trailer here!

Love you all!

I wasn't kidding about the dentist...

Hello all!

Not going to lie, I was a little disappointed that yesterday I didn't even get one follower... until I was informed that I didn't even have a follower button! Who knew? I googled how to get one of those (gotta love Google) so feel free to follow if you like my blog! I'd much appreciate it!

So if you read my post from yesterday, you might remember a small blurb about how how I hate going to the dentist. I wasn't kidding. Guess where I just got back from?! If you said "the Dentist's", BINGO! Now, I wonder how many of you are like me and despise going to the dentist, because I do know people - believe it or not - that smell that distinct rubbery, clean smell and go "Mmm, smells like a dentist's office!" (The same smell that in me triggers a gag reflex). My mother, for instance, loves going to the dentist. She has exclaimed on more that one occasion that if she had enough money, she would hire a dentist to clean her teeth every day, instead of actually brushing them herself. Why you would willing subject yourself to having your gums painfully poked and prodded, your own saliva splashed on your face, and someone else's hands shoved in your mouth along with about a million tubes, I have no idea. It's just awkward. What do you do with your tongue? When are you allowed to swallow? And why on earth would you try to talk to me while your shoving sharp metal objects in my mouth? "How's your reading week going, hun?" "Arghailkjgahfd."

Feel free to comment your thoughts on going to the dentist below! I'd love to hear from you guys :)

Dear People of the Internet,

"Dear People of the Internet" ... Okay, now that I've actually typed that it sounds a little dorky. I mean, it's not like everyone on the internet is going to read this. Heck, no one's probably going to read this! Whatever, it's my title and I like it. (I promise I'm not usually this geeky... well kinda.) What are you supposed to title your FIRST EVER blog post anyways? And - oh gosh! - what am I even supposed to write about?!

I suppose I should start with an introduction and I should probably explain to you why I decided to start this blog. Okay, so my name is Dare and I'm 18 years old. My dog and brother are my best friends (confrontation with real people makes me awkward). I love art, though the only thing I'm good at drawing are eyes (and, oddly enough, only the left ones). I'm happiest with a book in one hand and a Starbucks Skinny Hazelnut Latte in the other. My top three favourite authors are J.K. Rowling, Meg Cabot, and Richelle Mead. (Obviously, there are many more but I could literally spend all day discussing my favourite authors and by that time I'd probably have bored you all to death. Perhaps for another post.) I love, love, love, LOVE reading, hence, my life's goal is to become an author (and to find happiness, of course). Other than the fact that I will be a famous author someday, I have no clue how I'm going to get there, nor do I know what the heck I'm doing with my life.

Now, as to why I decided to write a blog. My whole life, I've struggled with various issues. For instance: anger-managment issues, depression, severe body image issues, eating disorders, self-harm, and to top it all off, I live in an extremely messed up family. I'm not telling you this because I'm looking for attention or because I want your pity. I'm telling you because I want to recover. I have issues. We all do, and I'm starting to come to terms with the fact that I'm not alone in this. And that is why I'm reaching out to you guys, the people of the internet. I figure if I tell you, I will have to prove to you that I can recover. And I will. I just need someone to believe in me.

This blog will probably consist of the various ramblings of my brain and I promise all most of it will make sense! (There should be a big, yellow warning sign, "CAUTION: Word Vomit Ahead"). I'll even try my hardest to be funny sometimes! I promise it wont all be about my "road to recovery". There may be a bit about my favourite books, movies, and T.V. shows, my fear of the dentist, or my distaste for that guy with the five-minute-long, tongue twister order that holds up the line at Starbucks. There will probably be a lot about my baby-angle-face puppy, Wesley (I apologize in advance). I guess you could just classify this as a "life blog".

So there you have it! Welcome to the simple blog about my not-so-simple life! I hope you enjoy.

Sincerely,
Dare

P.S. Any tips on how this "blogging" thing works would be much appreciated!
